Live-In Care
One Trusted Caregiver Living In, So Your Loved One Can Stay Home
What Is Live-In Care?
Live-in care means one caregiver lives in your loved one's home, helps through the day, and is in the house at night, with a place to sleep and time to rest. For families from the Jacksonville beaches and Fleming Island to Palm Coast and Ormond Beach, it is often the next step once a few visits a week no longer cover the hours that worry them.
The caregiver helps with bathing, dressing, and toileting, moving safely around the house, medication reminders, meals, laundry, light housekeeping, and rides to appointments. It is non-medical care: when a home health nurse or therapist visits, the caregiver works alongside them and keeps up the routine between visits.
The need shows in the numbers. In ZIP code 32082, Ponte Vedra Beach, 29.6 percent of residents are 65 or older, and about 1,880 people in that age group live alone, according to the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey. For a parent who is one of them, live-in care means someone is in the house every night.
Why Families Across Our Area Choose Live-In Care
Many families here weigh live-in care against a move to a senior community such as Vicar's Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach, which offers independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care. Each suits different people. Live-in care is the choice that keeps your parent in their own house, on their own schedule, with one caregiver who comes to know them well.
It also helps through hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. Special needs shelters are no substitute: St. Johns County's Special Medical Needs Shelter, for one, requires a caregiver to come along with the person it shelters, and its staff do not give one-on-one care. With a live-in caregiver, someone is already in the house when a storm watch goes up and the family has to decide whether to stay or go.
In rural Elkton, Hastings, Bunnell and Pierson, distance matters too. From Pierson, AdventHealth DeLand is about 25 minutes by car in free-flowing traffic, and from Hastings, UF Health Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine is about 27. A caregiver who lives in is not driving those roads at every shift change, and is already in the house if your parent needs help at night. On the barrier islands, from the Jacksonville beaches to Anastasia Island and Flagler Beach, the bridges to the mainland can close when storm winds rise, and a live-in caregiver does not have to cross one to start a shift.
How We Set Up Live-In Care
Live-in care starts with a visit to the home and a written plan, before anyone moves in.
Free In-Home Assessment
We visit your loved one at home to see the house, the daily routine, and the help needed by day and at night.
Written Care Plan
Before care starts, you get a written plan covering daily tasks, the caregiver's rest and sleeping arrangements, and who to call for what.
Caregiver Match
We match a screened, insured caregiver to your loved one's needs, personality, and household, because this person will be living there.
Ongoing Support & Adjustments
Our office stays in touch, our registered nurse is available for clinical questions, and the plan changes when needs do, such as after a hospital stay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does a live-in caregiver sleep?
In your loved one's home. A live-in caregiver needs a place to sleep and time to rest at night, plus breaks during the day, and we set those out in the written care plan before care starts. If your loved one needs someone awake through the night, overnight care or 24-hour care with caregivers on rotating shifts is the better fit, and we will talk through both with you.
What happens with live-in care when a hurricane is coming?
Plan before the season starts. Florida's evacuation zones run from A to F, with Zone A the most likely to be evacuated first, and you find the zone by exact address on the state's Know Your Zone map at floridadisaster.org. If your loved one relies on oxygen or electrically powered medical equipment, sign up for Florida's Special Needs Registry, which your county's emergency management office uses to plan shelter and evacuation help; signing up does not guarantee a shelter space. Special needs shelters have firm limits: St. Johns County's, for one, requires a caregiver to come along, does not provide one-on-one care, and cannot support hospital beds or Hoyer lifts. Settle who stays, who goes, and where, with your family and your caregiver, before a storm watch rather than during one.
Does Medicare pay for live-in care?
No. Medicare does not pay for 24-hour care at home, or for help with bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom when that is the only care someone needs. We are a private-pay, non-medical agency: we accept private pay and long-term care insurance, ask for no deposits or contracts, and do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. If cost is the obstacle, ElderSource, the Area Agency on Aging for Northeast Florida (1-888-242-4464), screens residents for Florida's Medicaid Long-Term Care program.
