What Is Hourly Care?

Hourly care sends a caregiver to your loved one's home for a set block of time, from a few hours a week to most of the day, anywhere in our area, from the Jacksonville Beaches and Fleming Island south through Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine and Palm Coast to Ormond Beach and Pierson. You choose the days and the hours, and the caregiver comes for exactly those.

During a visit the caregiver can help with bathing and dressing, meals, medication reminders, laundry, light housekeeping, and errands, or simply keep your loved one company. It is non-medical care, and it is the most common way families start: a few mornings a week, adjusted as needs change.

Near our office in Nocatee, many visits are built around getting out of the house: a primary care or geriatrics visit at Baptist HealthPlace at Nocatee on Colonnade Drive, an appointment at UF Health Nocatee on Town Plaza Avenue, a follow-up at the Baptist AgeWell Center for Health on Nocatee Village Drive, then a stop at the Publix at Nocatee Town Center on the way home.

Why Hourly Care Works for Families Across Our Area

It covers the gap between doing everything yourself and full-time care. When a spouse or adult child is handling most of the week, a few hours of help on set days gives them time to work, rest, or keep their own appointments.

It also fits around what the community already offers. The St. Johns County Council on Aging runs community centers for older adults on Marine Street in St. Augustine, on South Main Street in Hastings, and on Landrum Lane in Ponte Vedra Beach, where THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center is open Tuesday through Friday, with its longest hours on Wednesdays. An hourly visit can be timed around a center day, so the caregiver helps your loved one get ready, takes them there, and is back at home to help afterward.

Farther south, the public ride to an appointment has to be planned days out. Flagler County Public Transportation, the door-to-door bus for Palm Coast, Bunnell and Flagler Beach, carries only riders whose application has been approved and advises booking four to five days ahead because the schedule fills fast. In Ormond Beach and Pierson, Votran Gold's door-to-door trips for riders who qualify must be requested at least a day ahead. An hourly visit set around the appointment means the caregiver drives your loved one there, waits, and brings them home, with no bus to book.

How We Set Up Hourly Care

A short, clear process, so the first visit happens on a schedule you chose.

1

Free In-Home Assessment

We meet your loved one at home to learn the daily routine, the help needed, and which hours of the week are hardest.

2

Written Care Plan

You get a written plan before care starts: the days and hours, the tasks for each visit, and the appointments or errands to work around.

3

Caregiver Match

We match a screened, insured caregiver to your loved one and aim to send the same person each visit, so the routine stays familiar.

4

Ongoing Support & Adjustments

Hours can go up after a hospital stay or down when things settle, and our office and registered nurse stay in touch as needs change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hourly home care?

Hourly home care is non-medical, private-pay help in your loved one's own home, scheduled by the hour rather than around the clock. From our Ponte Vedra office, an Always Responsive Home Care caregiver comes for the hours you choose to help with bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, light housekeeping, errands, appointments, and companionship, so your loved one can stay safe and independent at home without full-time care.

How many hours a week can we schedule hourly care?

You set the schedule, from a few hours on set days to several visits a day or a full day. Some families start with mornings for bathing and breakfast; others add hours after a hospital stay or while a family caregiver is away. We build the schedule around your loved one's routine and change it as their needs change.

How much does hourly home care cost?

The rate depends on the hours, the schedule, and the help needed, so we price it after a free in-home assessment and give you a clear estimate before care begins, with no obligation. We are private pay and accept long-term care insurance, ask for no deposits or contracts, and do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. Call us at (904) 204-2046 to arrange the assessment.
