What home care in Ocean County covers
Many families first call us the week a loved one comes home from Community Medical Center in Toms River, Ocean University Medical Center in Brick or Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin. By then the hospital has often booked a home health agency, so a nurse or therapist will visit a few times a week.
Home care in Ocean County covers the rest of the day. A caregiver helps with bathing, makes lunch, keeps medications on the new schedule, walks beside your loved one to the bathroom at night and notices when they stop eating.

One county, three kinds of home
We cover 30 towns and 36 ZIP codes, and the work looks different from one end of the county to the other.
- The adult communities. Holiday City, Silver Ridge Park, Leisure Village and Crestwood Village are mostly one-floor homes, where a step-over tub is often what makes bathing difficult. Our Toms River and Lakewood pages say more about those communities.
- The shore. From Mantoloking to Seaside Park, and from Barnegat Light to Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island, every visit crosses a bridge, so in summer we plan our caregivers' schedules around the beach traffic on Route 37 and Route 72.
- The western townships. Jackson, Manchester and Plumsted, around New Egypt, spread out toward the Pinelands, and a parent who has stopped driving can go days without a real conversation. Companion care, with a caregiver who comes back on the same days each week, is often where care starts in those towns.

We provide non-medical home care: help with bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, getting around safely and companionship, by the hour, overnight or with a live-in caregiver. Home health care is skilled nursing and therapy that a doctor orders, usually from a Medicare-certified agency that visits a few times a week. Many Ocean County families have both, with our caregivers covering the hours between the nurse's visits.

How soon can a caregiver start after a hospital discharge?
Often within a day or two of your call, and sometimes the same day. It helps to call as soon as the hospital or rehab gives you a discharge date, whether that's Community Medical Center, Ocean University Medical Center, Southern Ocean Medical Center or Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, so we can visit, go over the discharge instructions with you and have a caregiver there when your loved one gets home.
Do you offer live-in care in Ocean County?
Yes. A live-in caregiver stays in your parent's home for days at a time and sleeps there at night, so it suits someone who mostly sleeps through the night. The caregiver needs a bed and a quiet, private place to sleep and take breaks. For someone who needs help several times a night, we arrange 24-hour care, with caregivers working awake shifts in turn.
Who else can help Ocean County families with care at home?
The Ocean County Office of Senior Services, at (732) 929-2091, is the county's starting point for older adults and caregivers, and it takes applications for state programs such as JACC. The Ocean County Board of Social Services, at (732) 349-1500, handles Medicaid, including MLTSS. Both are in the Ocean County Resource Center at 1005 Hooper Avenue in Toms River, on the same road as our office.
