Signs it's time for home care

If you have started to notice changes in your loved one, you are not alone. Seeing these signs is a normal part of caring for someone as they age, and it does not mean you or anyone else has failed. Check what you are seeing, then use the guide at the end to find a good next step.

What your checks may mean

Get ahead of it

1 or 2 checks anywhere

This is the best time to start. A caregiver a few hours a week can help with meals, laundry, light housekeeping, errands, rides and companionship. 24/7 Virtual Care, at most of our offices, adds support between visits. Starting early lets your loved one build trust with a caregiver before a crisis.

Regular help

Checks in 2 or more sections, or any check under personal care

Consider hourly care several days a week for bathing, dressing, grooming, meals and medication reminders, with 24/7 Virtual Care in between at most of our offices.

Don't wait

Any check under safety

Consider longer daily visits, overnight care, 24/7 care, or a caregiver who lives in the home (New Jersey and Pennsylvania only). Help getting around safely can lower the chance of another fall.

Checks under memory and mood

Memory changes have many causes, so share what you see with your loved one's doctor. Our Alzheimer's and dementia care gives your loved one steady routines and familiar faces.

Coming home from the hospital?

Short-term help after a hospital stay can make the first weeks home safer and easier.

If you checked a few of these

A few checks are a good reason to talk with someone. We offer a free assessment in your loved one's home to talk through what would help now and what may help later. A real person answers our phone day and night.
