Atlantic Beach, Mayport and What 32233 Covers

ZIP 32233 takes in all of the City of Atlantic Beach and a larger piece of the City of Jacksonville beside it. Of the ZIP’s roughly 10.2 square miles of land, about 3.7 are Atlantic Beach, a city of its own with City Hall at 800 Seminole Road, and about 6.5 lie in Jacksonville, including Mayport, on Ocean Street near the mouth of the St. Johns River. Naval Station Mayport, commissioned in December 1942 and described by the Navy as the third-largest fleet concentration area in the country, sits just to the north but has a ZIP code of its own, 32228. All of 32233 is in Duval County. Our office is inland at Nocatee Town Center in Ponte Vedra; for the team, the services and how we work, start with home care across Ponte Vedra.

The Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 American Community Survey estimates put about 24,600 people in 32233, a little over half of them in the City of Atlantic Beach. The ZIP is older than Duval County as a whole: its median age is 41.0, against 36.9 countywide; 21.2% of residents are 65 or older, against 15.3%; and 35.5% of households include someone that age, against 27.5%. Inside the city limits it is older still, with a median age of 48.9 and 42% of households including someone 65 or older. About 1,400 residents of the ZIP who are 65 and older live alone, about 870 are 85 or older, and roughly one in five residents 65 and older is a veteran. Those numbers describe a lot of parents living on their own, managing well until a fall, a hospital stay or a new diagnosis changes what a day takes. For home care in Atlantic Beach, hourly care covers the bathing, meals, laundry and errands of an ordinary week a few hours at a time, and overnight care puts someone awake in the house for the nights when getting up alone is the risk.

Coming Home From Baptist Beaches or Mayo Clinic

The beaches’ own hospital is Baptist Medical Center Beaches, at 1350 13th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach. It has 146 private patient rooms, appears on Florida’s list of Primary Stroke Centers, and describes its emergency department as “the only hospital-based, 24-hour emergency service at the beach.” In free-flowing traffic it is about 13 minutes’ drive from Atlantic Beach City Hall, about 18 from Fleet Landing and about 22 from Ocean Street in Mayport. Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus, at 4500 San Pablo Road in Jacksonville, is about 17 minutes from City Hall and about 25 from Mayport. Its Mayo Building puts the hospital and outpatient services under one roof, and the campus offers complimentary escorts and free wheelchairs for patients who have trouble getting to and from appointments.

Discharge from either can come with only a few hours’ notice. Hospital-to-home care can have a caregiver in the house when your parent gets back from 13th Avenue South or San Pablo Road, with prescriptions picked up on the way, meals that follow the discharge instructions and a ride to the first follow-up visit. Personal care covers bathing, dressing and toileting while strength comes back, and mobility care means a steady arm from the car to the front door and on the walks a physical therapist asks for. For a specialist visit at Mayo, a caregiver drives, waits, takes notes for the family and calls you afterward. If the doctor orders nursing or therapy visits at home, our caregivers cover the hours in between. We are private pay, accept long-term care insurance and don’t bill Medicare or Medicaid. Care starts with a free in-home assessment and a written plan, and there is a registered nurse on our staff.

Always On Virtual Care

Always On Virtual Care

Always On Virtual Care pairs our caregivers with Sensi, an AI-powered audio sensor that detects falls, distress, early UTI signs, and other care events around the clock. Sensi alerts our team the moment something changes — so families gain a second set of eyes during the hours a caregiver isn't physically in the room, and seniors stay safer at home for longer.

Fleet Landing, Free Tai Chi, and Rides Without a Car

Fleet Landing, at One Fleet Landing Boulevard inside the Atlantic Beach city limits, is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community with a Navy history. It was founded by a group of military officers in 1985, its corporate name is still the Naval Continuing Care Retirement Foundation, and the Atlantic Beach campus was developed in 1990. It offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, and its nursing center has 100 beds. When it decided in 2020 to build a second campus in Nocatee, Fleet Landing said more than 400 families were waiting to join the Atlantic Beach community. For a parent on a list like that, or one who has decided to stay in the house, care at home covers the time in between, or takes the place of the move altogether. Outside Fleet Landing, the City of Atlantic Beach holds classes at the Adele Grage Cultural Center, 716 Ocean Boulevard: its October 2026 calendar lists Tai Chi on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, with the Thursday class free and described by the city as helping to prevent falls, and free chair yoga on Tuesday afternoons. A short drive south, the Neptune Beach Senior Activity Center on Forest Avenue serves people 55 and older from across the Beaches; see home care in Neptune Beach.

Getting to any of it takes a ride. JTA’s ReadiRide has a Beaches Zone that runs from Mayport down through Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach, and west as far as Mayo Clinic. A trip has to start and end inside the zone, fares start at $2.00, and rides are booked by phone at (904) 265-6999 at least two hours ahead. JTA’s Connexion offers shared door-to-door rides anywhere in Duval County to people with disabilities who cannot use a regular bus and who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act or the Transportation Disadvantaged program. For public programs and caregiver support, the place to start is the HelpLine of ElderSource, the Area Agency on Aging for Northeast Florida, Duval County included, at 1-888-242-4464. For a parent who would rather not arrange a shuttle, companion care is a caregiver who drives them to Tai Chi, the pharmacy and lunch out, and stays for the visit. For a parent with memory loss, Alzheimer’s and dementia care keeps those outings, and the days at home, on a steady routine.

Storm Season: Zones A and B, and the Bridges Off the Island

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, and Duval County’s evacuation map divides 32233. Parts of the ZIP, Mayport among them, are in Zone A, the most vulnerable areas and the first to be evacuated; others, including the blocks around City Hall on Seminole Road and the Fleet Landing campus, are in Zone B. At the beaches the line matters less than it looks. The City of Jacksonville Beach’s hurricane guide explains that because the beach communities sit on a barrier island, both zones evacuate when an order is issued, that the order can come up to 96 hours before landfall, and that the Sheriff’s Office closes the bridges once winds on them reach 39 mph. The county routes Beaches residents west on Atlantic Boulevard, Beach Boulevard or J. Turner Butler Boulevard. For anyone who cannot drive out, JTA runs free Evacuation Shuttle buses to open public shelters, and one of its four designated pick-up points is Mayport Middle School, at 2600 Mayport Road. Zones are assigned address by address, so look up your parent’s on the City of Jacksonville’s evacuation zone search rather than going by the neighborhood.

Anyone who depends on electricity for life-supporting equipment or on oxygen, or who may need basic help from medical professionals, can sign up for the City of Jacksonville’s Special Medical Needs Registry online or at (904) 255-3172. Registration has to be renewed every year, a caregiver or family member must go along to the shelter, and the shelters are a last resort, offering basic nursing assistance, first aid, food and water. After a mandatory evacuation, the City of Atlantic Beach no longer issues re-entry passes; residents get back in by showing a Florida ID with an Atlantic Beach address, or a utility bill or tax receipt along with a state ID, so those belong in the bag that leaves with your parent. With live-in care, someone is already in the house when a watch is posted, packing medications, chargers and those documents, and making it possible to leave early instead of racing the bridge closures. For families who live out of town, extra hourly care shifts before a storm and after re-entry mean someone checks the house, the refrigerator and the medications, and makes sure your parent is eating.
